Hi, I’m Roma! I am an undergraduate student at Columbia University in New York City studying Political Science-Economics. Prior to Columbia, I graduated magna cum laude from my high school in the Bay Area, California.
My passion for tutoring began coming into high school, where I realized education inequity was incredibly important to me. I founded and continued to manage a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, EducAid, which provides free tutoring and teaching services for traditional and non traditional subjects for public schools in my hometown. Leading a team of ten incredible volunteer teachers, we successfully worked for seven schools across two states, helping over 1600 students gain a passion for learning. Aside from my organization, I was a tutor in my high school’s mentoring program in Honors Precalculus for two years. Additionally, I helped tutor elementary and middle school students in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Geometry for all four years of high school, inspiring them to gain a passion for math. Currently, I am a AP Statistics and AP Physics teaching assistant for the Global Teaching Project, an organization that rectifies educational inequity by providing AP curriculum and assistants to school districts and teachers in Mississippi.
My primary tutoring specialty is in Math, ranging from Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Statistics, and ACT Math. I also have experience in science tutoring, such as AP Physics 1, AP Physics C: Mechanics, and ACT Science.
I help students using the material they gain in their classes. We work through specific problems together, where I assess their skill with a concept, re-explain it in a digestible way if necessary, and help them with problems related to their work. I also specialize in helping students get on level, so I can help teach foundational skills while simultaneously keeping them up to par with their class. I look forward to working with your student, and please contact me if you have any questions!
