I am Joel Perez, a trombonist from Miami, Florida! I attended Broward College with a focus on Jazz studies for my AA degree and then transferred to Florida State University to finish my Undergrad. Following that I pursued my master's degree in jazz studies at Michigan State University. I also played for the Miami Heat and Carnival Cruise Lines as a Showband musician!

On top of working as a musician, I also have taught at French Woods Performing Arts Camp where I would lead two jazz improvisation classes and give one on one lessons to students needing more individual work. I also showed them what its like to play pit performances side by side to the person teaching you, Modeling is incredibly important in my methods.(Age range was 7-17; mostly 11+)
At my most recent job I taught middle school(G5-G8) band. This involved presentations on rhythm, steady beat, and what the instruments are! As well as help them pick their first instrument! G6-8 I would have them play their instruments that they played the previous year. We would spend time committing the notes on the staff to memory by playing exercises in the Essential Elements book. I would also cycle in a grade 1-2 piece of literature to get them used to striving towards a goal and to show me what they have learned!
I also ran an after school Advanced Band which was more involving challenging the students with new music!
