About Jack

Bio

I tutor art and Photoshop, working one-on-one with students from complete beginners to those building a portfolio. My background is in fine art and digital media. I hold an MFA in Digital Media from RISD and have worked professionally as an illustrator, designer, and art educator — for museums, publishers, and studios — for about 13 years.

I've taught students ranging from elementary-age children through adults, in both classroom and one-on-one settings. Sessions are focused on the student's own work: we look at what's in front of us, identify what isn't working, and go through specific steps to address it.
The approach is practical and direct. I give concrete feedback tied to the actual piece, explain the reasoning, and show what to do differently — whether the student is a beginner or working toward a specific goal.

Drawing

Drawing

Drawing opens up unlimited possibilities, and it’s a skill that anyone can learn. Whether you want to bring characters to life, capture portraits or everyday scenes, or create entire worlds from your imagination, my goal is to help you develop the skills you need to bring your ideas onto the page, no matter your style or focus. We’ll work on everything from fundamental techniques to finished drawings, building confidence along the way. I’ve worked across a range of projects, from large drawings in a NYC artist’s studio, to scientific illustrations at the American Museum of Natural History, to commercial pen-and-watercolor illustrations. I have extensive experience with both traditional materials like charcoal, graphite and oil, as well as digital tools including Procreate and Photoshop. This means I can guide you in whichever direction you’re most excited about, whether it’s refining observational skills or developing dynamic, imaginative drawings. I tailor each lesson to fit your goals, helping you find your own voice as an artist. If you’re ready to take the next step with your drawing, let’s get started.
