I am an experienced math educator with a BA in Mathematics and Secondary Education from Saint Louis University and an Initial Teaching Certificate in Mathematics for grades 7–12. I spent five years teaching high school mathematics in a classroom setting, working with students with a wide range of mathematical backgrounds and learning needs. I have also been tutoring students one-on-one for several years, including students preparing for the SAT and ACT as well as students seeking support with their regular math coursework. My experience includes working with middle and high school students in Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, and other areas of secondary mathematics.
My approach to tutoring is centered on helping students truly understand the material rather than simply memorizing steps or getting through a particular assignment. I take the time to identify where a student’s understanding begins to break down and then explain concepts in a way that makes sense to them. Because I have taught mathematics in a classroom and worked extensively with students one-on-one, I am comfortable adapting my approach to different learning styles, personalities, and levels of confidence. I encourage students to ask questions, make mistakes, and work through problems independently while providing guidance when they need it.
I believe that building confidence is just as important as building mathematical skills. Many students come to tutoring feeling that they are “not a math person,” and I enjoy helping them recognize that they are capable of understanding challenging concepts with the right explanation and practice. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more confident, more prepared, and better equipped to approach math independently.
