My career has alternated between writing, editing and public relations in the arts. After completing my BA in English from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, I worked on an MFA in Journalism and Dance at UW, where I also taught dance for children. I also worked on a MFA in Creative Writing at CUNY and was a Contributor at The Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. My professional positions in the arts included serving as a writer and editor at Dance Magazine, program book editor at BAM, assistant public relations director at the New York State Council on the Arts, among others.
I headed my own public relations and marketing business that focussed artists, performing arts institutions, and performing arts troupes for over 35 years. My work required a great deal of writing, editing and overseeing a staff of up to ten. During that time I also worked as a volunteer reading and writing tutor for a 7th grade student. Other teaching experience includes serving as a swim instructor for several summers.
Articles that I have written have appeared in The New York Times, The Daily News Sunday Magazine, Playbill, Changes, Horizon Magazine, Dance Magazine, Ballet News, The West Side Rag, among other publications.
