I'm Evie! I graduated summa cum laude from Oberlin College with a major in History, a minor in Environmental Studies, and a concentration in Journalism. At Oberlin, I worked in the Writing Center for two years where I helped students with their writing from the beginning to final stages of their process. Additionally, I worked as an editor for Oberlin's literary magazine, Wilder Voice. I have also worked with high school and middle school students on their writing. I specialize in academic essays, college essays, and supplements, but I enjoy working with tutees on anything relating to English and writing.
When working with students, I like to let them tell me where they feel their work needs strengthening. By allowing students to lead the session, I notice they become more engaged and begin to think more critically about their own work. However, I also know that a more directive style is better for some students and am skilled at leading sessions. During the first meeting, I try to gauge which approach will be more useful for the student. From there, we go through the material together and I give them feedback on their work or provide exercises they can do independently.
I am very open to feedback and suggestions from parents and students. I prefer to tailor my sessions to what each student needs. I am happy to meet virtually or in person at an agreed upon location. I am also easy to reach, respond quickly, and happy to answer questions or provide more information. Feel free to contact me with any inquiries or to schedule a session!
