Hello, I'm Ashley! I'm a recent Ivy League graduate pursuing my PhD in the NYC area specializing in the biological sciences. My academic career has been a conglomerate of training in mathematics, biology, chemistry, environmental studies, and writing. As a student myself, I know the value of having direct support as I gain the background and capabilities to excel in my area of study. I have worked as an instructor and student in a variety of settings, from big lectures to six-person seminars, and know that excitement and engagement from an instructor is the most crucial step towards learning. In tutoring, I find working on problems as a team as we encounter new material is the best way to support students, and I aim to leave students feeling as though they always understand every step along the way. Of course, any approach depends on the student and how they best work with new material—and my approach is always fluid to best suit them.
I have experience tutoring one-on-one and in small groups for students ranging from elementary to high school students and undergraduates. My past work has focused on writing, science, and mathematics, particularly with a focus on upper-level math such as Algebra and Calculus. I have also worked as an SAT tutor and helped students increase their scores upwards of 300 points, as well as provide further support for students preparing for various SAT subject tests.
I organize lesson plans both through supplementing students' coursework and crafting independent, unique curriculums for students depending on their needs. My aim is always to meet students where they are and help them expand upon their growing base of knowledge and be flexible as a student grows and adapts. Learning and engaging with new concepts is always a team effort, which means I always want to hear input from students and parents on how they best feel we should approach new concepts. Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a session!
