Bio

I graduated from Harvard University with a 3.9 GPA, and I have over 4 years of tutoring experience in Latin, writing, and university admissions, having tutored over 250 students in the past.

I earned a Citation in Latin Language from Harvard University; I scored a perfect 800 on my Latin SAT II; and I was one of just 21 students in the entire United States to win the National Latin Exam Scholarship (2017), which recognizes the strongest Latin students in the country. I earned a Citation in Latin Language from Harvard University; I scored a perfect 800 on my Latin SAT II; and I was one of just 21 students in the entire United States to win the National Latin Exam Scholarship (2017), which recognizes the strongest Latin students in the country. I emphasize grammar fundamentals, intensive vocabulary review, and a unique methodology behind Latin translation that I learned through 1:1 study with Harvard University Professor Richard R. Tarrant, an esteemed Classicist with over 50 years of experience in-field.

As for university admissions, I specialize in admissions essays and interviewing. To date, my students have achieved admission at prestigious universities such as the University of Pennsylvania, MIT, Brown University, and more. I am able to guide students through the process of brainstorming an essay topic, drafting an essay and editing it to perfection. As a public speaking coach (having earned the top score in the Harvard Public Speaking Practicum 2022), I have extensive experience sharpening a student's interview skills through exercises and applied practice. I tutor high school students applying to college and postgraduate students applying for advanced degrees, as well.

I have tutored over 150 students with a focus on writing. My skill set spans analytical writing, creative writing, and speechwriting. My approach focuses on building a deep understanding of structure, substance, and style. Much of my skill derives from my experience learning under the Expository Writing Program at Harvard University.

I tutor 5th-12th grade, with a focus on Latin or writing, and for 5th-8th grade, I also offer general tutoring across all subjects (math, science, history, etc.).

In all my years of school, Latin remained my strongest subject. I received a perfect 800 on my SAT II in Latin; I received the gold medal for highest honors on the National Latin Exam 4/4 years of high school; I was one of 21 scholars in the nation to win the National Latin Exam Scholarship in 2017; and I graduated from Harvard University with a citation in Latin language.

For most of my life, even from during my childhood, I have been selected to carry out mass public speaking engagements. In 7th grade, I delivered the commencement address for the education NPO Prep for Prep for a crowd of 350+; in 12th grade, I delivered the Groton School Revisit Day address for 400+ to standing ovation; in September 2022, I delivered the Head of School Inauguration address at St. Bernard's School for 300+; and in January 2023, I delivered the Head of School Inauguration address at Grace Church school for 350+. Each of these opportunities required competitive selection, and the speeches ranged from 5-12 minutes in length.

Fantastic Tutor

Mike was a fantastic Latin tutor for my teen son. He made learning Latin fun and was a wonderful cheerleader, encouraging my son and getting him excited about the language. My son switched to a different high school two weeks after it had started. He was thrown into a Latin class (never studied it before) and didn’t benefit from the foundational learning of the first weeks. He struggled for months. Then Mike stepped in and quickly assessed what my son needed to learn and how best to build his Latin skills. He made worksheets and provided very helpful hints (making flash cards and practicing translations). Furthermore, Mike was patient yet persistent with scheduling focused Latin time despite my son’s time conflicts during myriad sports seasons. Mike knows how to work with teens to get them focused and excited about a topic. He also managed to prevent my son from failing Latin and gave him the confidence to do pretty well in the class in the end. Thank you, Mike!
