Hello! My name is Derek, and I am a doctor completing neurosurgery residency at NYU Langone Health. Simultaneously, I offer college and medical school essay and application consulting. I previously attended the NYU Grossman School of Medicine where I received the Klara and Larry Silverstein Merit Scholarship and was admitted to NYU's Accelerated Three-Year MD Pathway for Neurosurgery. Before medical school, I attended Georgia Tech as a Stamps President's Scholar, studying neuroscience and graduating with the highest honors.

During my senior year of high school, I was highly successful in college admissions, earning admission to Harvard, Yale, Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, Duke, Vanderbilt, Rice, and Emory among others. After applying to 23 of the nation’s top medical schools, I received 22 interview invitations, attended 18 interviews, and received 17 acceptances. These 17 acceptances include 14 of the top 20 medical schools. At many of these institutions, I received competitive full-tuition and full-ride merit scholarships. I attribute much of this success to spending hundreds, if not thousands, of hours scouring the internet and reading books on the admissions process, where I gained insight into not only the components of a successful application but also how to present them to admissions committees.

I have spent 6 years counseling applicants, with extensive time revising personal statements, building school lists, editing school specific essays, preparing students for interviews, and tailoring applications to fit a schools’ missions. Whether it is ensuring eloquent sentence structure or leaving a mark in interviews, I have successfully offered these services and am open to discuss additional needs. After counseling 50+ students, completing 100+ interviews, and editing 500+ essays, many students that I worked with have gained admission to Ivy League schools and top colleges with merit scholarships.
