Hi there! Ed V. here: TV writer, playwright, writing coach, mentor, tutor, and teacher. I'm a four-time Daytime Emmy Award winner for writing on Sesame Street and a three-time winner of Hunter College’s Irv Zarkower Playwriting Award.

In theater, I was awarded a Dramatists Guild Fellowship in Playwriting and was named one of “50 Writers to Watch” in The Dramatist Magazine. My plays have had productions around the U.S. and internationally, including NYC, LA, Seattle, and Dublin, Ireland. I have launched a regional theater in the Berkshires.

In TV, I received a Nickelodeon Writing Fellowship, and I've written on many shows, including The Fairly OddParents, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Doc McStuffins, and Ultimate Spiderman. I have been Head Writer on Netflix / Nickelodeon’s Sharkdog, as well as Story Editor and Workshop Leader for Sesame International productions in India, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.

I'm here today because I have a passion for teaching writing to students at all levels, from elementary school to grad school and beyond. I have 6 years of 4th grade teaching in my background - and most recently I taught screenwriting, TV animation masterclasses, and essay writing at NYU. I was also the inaugural MFA Thesis Professor in Visual Narrative at The School of Visual Arts.

I split my time between Sheffield, MA and NYC, where I studied playwriting with esteemed playwrights Tina Howe (Hunter College) and Len Jenkin (NYU), as well as TV writing with Charlie Rubin and Joe Kelly (NYU). I'm a graduate of Boston College and have my MFA in Dramatic Writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts.

I look forward to working with you - and to helping you bring out the very best in your writing!

I have a decade and a half of experience writing for television, with four Emmy awards and numerous shows on my CV. I have worked at Disney, Nickelodeon, and Netflix, among many others, and I have been a head writer and consultant on a number of shows. I am also an animation submission judge for the Emmys and the College Television Awards. I teach Screenwriting and Animation Writing Masterclasses at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, and have over two decades of experience teaching all ages, from elementary school to grad students.

Public Speaking

I have decades of public speaking experience as a public reader, actor, voiceover artist, and teacher. I am the artistic director of a regional theater, and am accustomed to public speaking as part of that position. I have also taught and directed theater, from elementary school through seniors, so I am experienced at helping people of all ages and comfort levels to become better, more comfortable public speakers.
Theater

Theater

I have decades of experience in theater, including paid work as an actor, a produced (and award-winning) playwright and TV writer, the artistic director of a theater company, director of plays (both for students and for professionals), and a director of films. I have also been a teacher of Dramatic Writing and Animation Masterclasses (NYU), and Visual Narrative (School of Visual Arts), and a summer theater camp counselor for ages 5-8. I was a double major in Theater and English for my undergrad (Boston College), and I have an MFA in Dramatic Writing (NYU).

Reviews

Patient, knowledgeable, and supportive

It’s pretty overwhelming to write a review for someone who is tutoring you with writing. But thanks to Ed’s expertise, I now know that me taking my writing to new heights is only a metaphor. Am I more comfortable with punctuation after our lessons?! You betchya! I wish I could somehow compare my relief after each session with the tides of the ocean, but that might have to wait for our third class.
