Hello! My name is Rithika Rand I recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in Sociology and minors in Chemistry and Neuroscience. I am currently in an intensive research program at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine for my gap year prior to matriculation in medical school.
Throughout my high school and undergraduate journeys, I have continued to take part in various tutoring endeavors, eager to teach others and help in any way I can. From a young age, I realized I had a passion for teaching and creating lesson plans for students based on their individual learning styles. I enjoy exploring new concepts with students and helping them to become interested in topics that previously seemed difficult or boring. To me, teaching is about catering to the each student depending on their interests and incorporating creative games and workshops to encourage learning. Additionally, I aim to be as available and open for my students to ask questions and contact me with any difficulties. I believe that explaining through an error is equally as important as teaching the concept in the first place.
My tutoring experiences began in early high school as I tutored for the Monroe Township Public Library Math and Reading buddies program. Through this program, I tutored many different K-8 students in various math and reading based subjects for three years. I was also a tutor at Kumon Learning Center for four years where I worked with a variety of students three times a week. Once I began college, I continued to pursue tutoring by becoming a teaching assistant for General Chemistry, Biology, and Neuroscience classes. Additionally, I have experience teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in basic laboratory procedures through my research program.
I look forward to building on these experiences by tutoring students through Wyzant. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!
