Hello! Do you have an audition coming up? Are you looking to try out a new hobby? Do you just love to sing? I would love to teach you! I am Sarah B, an experienced voice and piano teacher, as well as a professional opera singer and musical theatre performer residing in NYC. I earned my MM in Voice Performance & Pedagogy and teaching certification from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and BM in Voice Performance, with a minor in Italian from Penn State University. I have many years of experience teaching both voice and piano to students of all ages! I have taught general music in the elementary and middle school classroom, and 4th-8th grade choir. I also music direct musicals, and teach various performing arts classes, including "Clowning," "Opera Convos: Learning Recitative" and "Fairytales in Opera."

As a performer, I have produced several solo concerts (i.e. "No One is Alone: The Jewish Tradition on Broadway") and collaborations with colleagues, which I have performed at churches, synagogues, museums and retirement communities, as well as traditional opera and musical theatre roles. I funnel this experience into every lesson I teach in order to help my students accomplish their goals. Together, we will choose, and learn repertoire that reflects what the student is interested in learning, and contains elements that will help establish a healthy singing technique. I am always happy to assist my students in audition techniques and the business of music. Part of my teaching process is building up the confidence of my students and helping them see what they are capable of!

Objectives We Will Focus On!
•Learn Technique (breathing, posture, phonation, vibrancy)
•Discuss Interpretation (creating a context for a piece, and finding its meaning; acting)
•Learn Musicianship (sight-reading notes and rhythms, how to go about learning a piece)
•Prepare for independent work (the best ways to practice).
•To have fun!

Extremely fun lessons that cover lots of ground

Sarah has been teaching my 6 year old son for several months now and it doesn't seize to amaze me how much she is able to pack into every lesson. Not only does she work on voice, she works on diction, tempo, delivery. I now believe that anyone who does any sort of public speaking would benefit dramatically from these lessons. Sarah is a very fun and engaging teacher, she is always patient and kind. My kid is not great at staying focused, yet Sarah is able to grab and keep his attention for the entire length of the lesson (we usually do 45-60 minute sessions). We are very happy we have found her!!

Great ear!

Sarah is excellent at catching what note you are on which is very helpful for new songs. She has been doing exercises with me to both prepare for singing and improve my ability. A song that I’ve wanted to learn uses intervals, so she began teaching intervals with information custom to and beyond the song. For a more obscure song we were doing together, she even prepared a track of the music for me.
