Hello. I am a retired fisheries biologist and fisheries manager with 37+ years of experience with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. I received BS and MS degrees from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, and worked in the Catskill and Hudson Valley regions of New York's DEC. I have only limited formal teaching experience, although I have taught limnology to two students enrolled in Empire State College, a "college without walls." However, "teaching" in the broad sense was an integral part of my entire career. I often served as an expert witness explaining to an Administrative Law Judge why a proposed project would be damaging to the aquatic ecosystem, or why a particular activity violated New York law. I wrote many scientific papers, and spoke to numerous sporting groups, members of the media, peers, and New York and interstate regulatory agencies. All of these activities require a deep and clear knowledge of the subject matter, and the ability to communicate effectively with both professional and non-professional audiences.

My strongest belief in communication and teaching is that one must strive to be honest and factual at all times. Anything that you are not sure is "true" must be put in that perspective and, when possible, diligently researched to see if there is a more logical or defensible point of view.

Since I retired, I miss the stimulation of interacting with my peers and other stakeholders on matters and topics that I love. I am quite sure that I could provide you or your loved ones with information that would advance your education in these fields. I am also sure that, if I can't contribute to your particular situation, I will let you know very early on.

Hope to talk to you if you are interested in fisheries biology and/or limnology.
