Hi! I'm Larissa, a Computer Science and Mathematics double degree at UMass Amherst (GPA: 3.8/4.0, Dean's List every semester), and a proud recipient of the UMass Chancellor's Award for academic excellence. My research spans AI at Dell Technologies --; where I developed multi-agent architectures and co-filed six patents--; and serving as an AI Research Assistant at Harvard's Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, using computer vision to automate brain scan segmentation across contrasts and resolutions. I've also worked as a Data Analytics Intern at Liberty Mutual, building full-stack applications and AWS cloud pipelines, and presented original computer vision research at a national conference. I'm currently applying to the NSF GRFP, NDSEG, and the DOE Computational Science Graduate Fellowships. Alongside all of this, teaching has always been a constant thread in my life-- as VP of Girls Who Code (mentoring 300+ participants), a UMass Senior Advisor, and a coding workshop leader for elementary school students and seniors in my community.
My tutoring strengths include mathematics, computer science, Python, Java, C++, JavaScript, data structures, algorithms, statistics, and introductory machine learning. Because I work at the intersection of theory and real-world application every single day, I help students understand not just the "how" but the "why" and connect concepts to problems that actually matter. I'm especially skilled at helping students who feel stuck or intimidated by technical subjects to rediscover their confidence.
My sessions are structured but always tailored to you. We start by identifying exactly what feels confusing, work through examples together at a comfortable pace, then practice independently so you leave each session feeling genuinely capable. I'm patient, encouraging, and easy to reach between sessions when questions come up. Whether your goal is improving your grade, preparing for an exam, or building confidence in a subject you've been avoiding; I'd love to help you get there!
