Hi! My name is Gayatri Bulsara and I am from Long Island, New York. I am a Junior studying Neuroscience and Behavior with an intended Mathematics minor on the Medical track at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City. Growing up, I was never a student who simply was able to just memorize things. Rather, I am a firm believer that the best way to perform well on exams instead of plain memorization is to deeply understand the concepts of what you are studying and understand these concepts as a story. As a student, I was a very hands-on, visual learner who needed tips, tricks, and acronyms to learn, and these are the exact fun and interactive methods I instill within the students that I teach.
I have experience as an academic tutor at a Kumon Math and Reading Center, where I worked with students ages 2–18, from pre-K through 12th grade, across all skill levels. There, I supported math and reading development, managed classrooms of 30+ students, graded assignments, and tracked student progress through detailed score reports. I am also currently a Teaching Assistant for Cellular and Molecular Biology at Barnard College, where I guide undergraduates through experimental protocols, data collection, and troubleshooting, while assisting with grading and providing clear, consistent feedback.
My Physics 1 professor in undergrad had always stated that the only way to learn is to ask questions and work together, and I engrain this idea within my students. I encourage questions, collaboration, and active learning, stopping whenever needed to ensure concepts are fully understood. I am approachable, patient, adaptable, and happy to tailor lessons using any resources that best fit a student’s learning style. I have fast response times, so feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a lesson, I’d love to help!
