Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

At age 13 started studying composition with Gerardo Gandini, Argentine composer, and pianist of the Piazzolla Quintet. At age 15 I offered my first concert as a composer and pianist, at age 18, I composed and conducted my first orchestral piece. I worked with Philip Glass premiering some of his symphonies, operas, and films accompanied by live orchestra. I worked with Osvaldo Giolijov in the music for "Tetro", by Francis F. Coppola. Advised many young composers at Yale, Tanglewood, MIT. My last premiered compositions are "Faust" Symphony for two Sopranos, a tenor, two choruses and orchestra, and a Fanfare for the Independent Man' for brass and percussion. Taught composition at beginners' level since 1989. Taught orchestration since 2001. My philosophy on teaching composition: 1- listen to the student's goals 2-refresh all harmony practices from the baroque to minimalism 3- educate in known western composition' structures 4- present exercises of analysis of the aforementioned 5-explore the style, wishes, needs of the student
General Music

General Music

My thorough preparation started in a Conservatory modeled to the best example in both Italian and French Institutions, by A. Ginastera. I was taught Solfège, Harmony, Acoustics, Ear Training, History of Music, Chamber Music, Psychology applied to Music and Chorus in my adolescent years. After 9 years as professional harpsichordist and pianist for a Chamber Orchestra, and Chorus Master at an opera theater, I was accepted as conducting student at Yale, where I received instruction on score reading and analysis, contemporary and mainstream repertoire, and excellent training in all corners of conducting. Starting in Bonn and Bern, made my way to conduct opera, ballet and concerts, by which I applied all my knowledge -teaching music for MIT and NEC students, and to many other young musicians at the Youth Orchestra of the Americas. I offer knowledge tailored to each student's needs and goals.
Music History

Music History

Studied Music History from age 11, in four consecutive years, from Chinese and Hindu early practices, through Greeks, Romans, Medieval Chanting, Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Impressionism, Dodecaphonic, avant-garde, new musics till the sixties. Then reinforced my studies at Yale, passing the MH test for applying to the Doctorate, making my dissertation on Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. During all my years as Conductor and Conducting Professor, I have applied my knowledge to teach individuals and youth orchestras, college students and young conductors. At times I gave pre concert conferences, and short introductions to audiences, talking about the historic context of pieces performed. After a short conversation, I am able to understand a student need or goal, designing then a good plan for classes and readings.
