I’m Karl A. I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and Media and I have a Master’s degree in Management Communications. For over twenty years I was a Research Director at several major corporations including MTV Networks, Scholastic Books, and BMG/Columbia House. Part-time, I was an adjunct instructor at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York and, for the past ten years, I have been a Senior Writer at All About Jazz, the largest jazz publication in the world. My writing has been translated for publications in China, Iran, Russia, Cuba and countries throughout Europe and South America. As a member of the Jazz Journalists Association, I am a regular contributor to the National Public Radio (NPR) Annual Jazz Critics Poll. I have my own writing business, providing business services such as Marketing communications, biographies, and resume writing.
I have two children, one in college, one in high school, and understand that schools often cannot dedicate their resources to teaching effective writing skills. In the corporate world, I frequently develop writing material tailored to different audiences and varying levels of understanding. I enjoy teaching and want to provide students, and adults, with the benefits of my experience and expertise. I am easy to reach and provide quick responses. Contact me with any questions or to schedule a lesson.
I have been part of the evolution of business writing from simple data and conclusions to “story-telling” patterns of setup, conflict, resolution. I’ve applied these principles to teaching students and providing clients with communications more compelling to readers.
