I have a degree in clinical psychology with a concentration in school counseling, a degree in childhood education, and a degree in special education. I have eleven years or experience teaching and tutoring. I am sensitive to student’s diverse and challenging needs and have the ability to differentiate based on learning style, interest, readiness, and need. I present information in a variety of ways to reach all learners.
My teaching career has been geared toward the academic and socio-emotional well being of elementary school children. I have a strong passion to educate young minds and help them blossom into well rounded, responsible, and successful individuals. Providing an opportunity for a child to become excited to learn is a priceless experience. In my experience, I have been fortunate enough to have opportunities to teach diverse groups of students, including those with learning disabilities, those who perform at grade level, and those who are gifted and talented. As a result, I have become proficient at designing creative and stimulating lesson plans, which accommodate multiple intelligences and keep students interested and engaged.
For math, I think enjoying math and understanding the "whys" of math is important. I try to make math fun and increase the students confidence by having them succeed on step at a time. Once their confidence and joy increases, (in my experience) they are able to gain a deeper understanding of concepts.
