As background I worked as an actuary in New York City for about seven years. I returned to school to get my Master's in Education. I taught for four years in three different settings and ultimately decided that working on a one-on-one basis was more rewarding for me. I have found that I enjoy my students and (I believe) they enjoy me more working together this way. I have been tutoring math for the past seven years for students in elementary through high school levels.
I understand that math is not everyone's favorite subject. My goal is to help my students with their understanding and to find greater success in math class. I firmly believe that once basic skills are mastered, math will not feel so foreign. Students at the middle school level need to understand how these skills will help them in their everyday lives. High school math is more challenging but can be mastered once students feel comfortable and confident with all they have accomplished in middle school. My job is to be knowledgeable and encouraging to all my students.
I am qualified to tutor elementary and middle school math as well as Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and Trigonometry. Although my teaching experience from seven years ago was in middle school, I have tutored all these subjects since then and have fallen in love with them all over again. It is my love of math that makes my lessons a positive experience.

Anna has been my son's algebra tutor for several months and is helping him improve his understanding of the subject and pull up his grade. She often "re-teaches" him a lesson that he did not fully absorb in class, giving him the individual instruction and strategies he needs in order to better understand the concepts. She is very patient and thorough. He does much better on tests after he has reviewed the material with Anna!
Anna has been a positive and wonderful tutor for my 12 year old daughter. She used to dread Math but now after Anna's help, she is very comfortable and confident and her A this past quarter shows the result.
If you are looking for a great, knowledgeable, solid, dependable math teacher who actually loves math and can impart at least a desire to learn it in even the most resistant student, you've found her in Anna.
Further, Anna is an excellent teacher! She is familiar with the local school systems and their math requirements. Our daughter's grades have improved tremendously after working with Anna only a short time.
My daughter enjoys working with Anna. Anna was able to zero in on many of my daughter's math deficiencies in short order, working to correct these while at the same time keeping her on top of current assignments/work/concepts.
We recommend Anna without reservation.
If you have any questions, please ask Anna for our number and we'll be glad to help!
Anna identified that my daughter has learned procedures from Alg2/Trig correctly but, because of missing some math facts and basic techniques from earlier years, can be slow at solving problem-solving and can make mistakes that appear careless. She is working to fill in these "holes" while at the same time rebuilding confidence.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored students at both public and private high schools. I am qualified to teach Algebra 1 and 2, geometry and trigonometry.
After working as a middle school math teacher, I have spent the past eight years tutoring pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and algebra 2 and trigonometry. I am familiar with the Common Core requirements for math.
While a classroom teacher, I taught strictly 7th and 8th grade math classes.
