I am a New York State certified mathematics teacher with a B.A. in Mathematics and a Master of Arts in Education. I hold certifications in Mathematics 7–12 and the Mathematics 5–6 Extension, as well as certifications in special education. I am also currently completing additional coursework in TESOL. My educational background and teaching experience have prepared me to work with students across a wide range of ability levels and learning needs.
I have experience teaching mathematics at the high school level in both general education and special education settings. During a mathematics leave replacement, I taught Algebra 2, Algebra 2 Honors, and College Algebra, working with students in grades 10–12. I have also worked extensively as a substitute teacher and previously completed a leave replacement in a special education setting. My experience includes preparing students for exams, reviewing Regents-level material, grading Algebra I and Algebra II Regents exams, and providing accommodations and individualized support to students who need additional assistance.
My tutoring approach focuses on helping students understand why a mathematical process works rather than simply memorizing steps. I break difficult concepts into smaller, manageable pieces, work through examples with students, and then gradually allow them to solve problems more independently. I adjust my explanations based on the individual student and am comfortable reteaching a concept in different ways until it makes sense. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades and prepare for exams, but also to build their confidence and make mathematics feel more approachable.
