Hi - You can call me John, Tim, or Timothy. I recently graduated Phi Theta Kappa with an Associates Degree in Computer Science, and a minor in Music Theory. While completing my degree, I was employed by the college as a tutor in Calculus I, II and Computer Science (Java). Outside of my college teaching experience I’ve also worked with younger students teaching chess and music. I enjoyed having the experience of tutoring students both in person and virtually. It’s truly been rewarding seeing the regular students improve over time and reach their goals in conquering math and coding skills. I consider myself to be kind, conscientious, will take the time to tailor the lesson to suit needs, approach problem-solving with less frustration, and map out a plan of attack.
I have a 3.99 GPA, and am a member of the PTK Honor Society. I also have a Certificate in Music Theory from Dutchess Community College NY. I am currently applying to four-year universities to finish my Bachelors. My other interests include competitive chess, for which I have 2000+ performance, am a member of the WCA and won many tournaments. My favorite language is Japanese, for which I am a member of the AATJ, and my goal for 2022 is to take and pass the annual JLPT N2 Exam. In 2022 I’ve also started learning and thoroughly enjoying Mandarin Chinese, which has similarities to Japanese.
I enjoy helping students in Math from elementary to Calc II and Discrete Math. Beginner to advanced Chess, Music Theory, Japanese and maybe even beginner Mandarin.
I'm only in the first few years of Computer Science, therefore I'm not super confident in teaching as many levels of those other than some Java 1, Java 2, Data Structures and very little of Computer Architecture.
I have a flexible schedule. I'll respond to any inquiries within a day, but PLEASE SEND PICTURES of your recent homework so I can judge if I'm at a good level to tutor you, or can do additional research beforehand. Thank you!
