I am a graduate of Cornell University with a BS in Biological Sciences, where I started tutoring students one-on-one in calculus. Since then, I have also served multiple times as a teaching assistant, both at the undergraduate and graduate level. These were traditional classroom group lessons. Currently as a MS student at the University of Illinois, I have been an online tutor, mainly for high school and college students in multiple math and science subjects. I have brought C students up to A's. I am experienced with the AP biology curriculum and can markedly improve performance for high scores on the AP exam.
Understanding is far better than memorization. I teach to make sure that students understand the "why" and "how" of the topic, not just memorizing facts. This is especially important for FRQs, word problems, and more advanced topics that require analysis of the material, beyond simple regurgitation of lectures. I check along the way to make sure students have reached the level of understanding required to analyze the material.
I always have fun tutoring. I love the topics I teach, and I'm sure you will too!
