I hold a B.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation and a Master’s of Research in Science, with additional Ph.D. coursework in anthropology and evolution. My field and research experience across biology and psychology has led to publications in peer-reviewed journals, NSF funding, and a post-graduate teaching certificate. These experiences have strengthened my ability to explain complex ideas clearly and connect learning to the real world.

I’ve worked with learners of all ages as a university teaching assistant, science outreach educator, and tutor independently and through professional tutoring companies. I develop customized lessons adapted to each student’s goals, interests, and learning style.

My teaching philosophy centers on curiosity and active, student-centered learning. I help students think critically and “learn how to learn,” so they gain confidence and independence across subjects.

I offer one-on-one tutoring, group sessions, and homeschool support in writing, executive function, natural and social sciences, ESL, and nature journaling, along with detailed editing and writing feedback. I also provide tracked revisions to help students strengthen their writing and research projects.

Knowledgeable, Helpful, Well-Prepared

Mackenzie did a great job of preparing ahead of time by reviewing some essays of mine and providing constructive feedback. She was patient with me during our sessions but efficient in helping me learn, and so far she has been willing to go above and beyond to make sure I am getting the help I need.

Patient and very helpful

Mackenzie helped me with a variety of computer skills and specific questions I had. She made things easy to understand and made sure I was able to repeat any of the tasks myself before moving on. I would highly recommend her as a tutor.
