Welcome! I graduated as Valedictorian from St. Joseph’s University, Brooklyn, with my bachelor’s degree summa cum laude in English with Secondary Education and received my master’s in English from Queens College.

I have 20+ years of teaching experience, first as a middle school ELA teacher with a NYS permanent teaching license in English 7-12, and currently on the college undergraduate level as a Senior Lecturer in English and Communication Studies. The courses I teach include the freshman writing course required in most universities, along with creative writing, writing for professionals, and children’s literature. I am also a published writer and was a finalist for a grant from the Speculative Literature Foundation.

As an experienced educator and writer, I am passionate about cultivating young people’s unique writing voices. For college application essays, I work with students to shape their writing into well-crafted, personalized, and compelling essays – work that makes them stand out in the highly-competitive world of college admissions. I provide conferences for brainstorming ideas, writing the hook, and planning structure, as well as in-depth written feedback with conferences to discuss and revise drafts together, and proofreading for grammar and mechanics for a polished final copy.

My goals are to ease the stress of the writing process, help students gain confidence in their writing, and make the experience a positive and successful one – wherever you are in the essay writing process! A college student notably evaluated me as “the most genuine, caring, respectful, and organized teacher ever.”

I also offer coaching for various middle school, high school, and undergraduate writing, including persuasive writing, non-fiction and literature analysis, critical writing, creative writing, personal narratives, and the AP Lang and AP Lit essays.

Message me to discuss what support you are looking for in your writing process. I look forward to working with you to make your writing shine!

Creative Writing

Creative Writing

I am both a traditionally and independently published author and was a finalist for the Speculative Literature Foundation's Older Writers Grant in 2024. My short work has appeared in Podcastle Magazine, Crow & Cross Keys, and various anthologies. I currently have a novel out on submission. I am active in writing communities, and I also teach a creative writing course on the undergraduate level.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I have 20+ years of experience teaching essay writing on the secondary and undergraduate levels. I am adept at teaching students methods of gathering ideas and then organizing those ideas into an essay structure with coherence, unity, and a unique voice. I am a big believer in providing extensive written feedback, pointing out what was done well and how to improve, and then discussing it with the student and working with them to revise through at least two drafts. On the undergraduate level I teach Writing for Effective Communication, which is the required course for freshman taught in most universities. Teaching writing is my favorite type of teaching!
Fiction Writing

Fiction Writing

My short fiction work has been published in Podcastle Magazine, Crow & Cross Keys, and various anthologies. I currently have a novel on submission. In my creative writing undergraduate course, I taught students how to craft short stories, from brainstorming to character motivation, conflict, and plot, and I gave extensive written and verbal feedback on those stories and led them in peer critiques and editing.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As a former middle school ELA teacher, I trained students for oratorical contests. As an English and Communication Studies professor, I have taught Introduction to Human Communication, which is a required public speaking course for many majors. I find great fulfillment in teaching students how to build confidence through the power of their words and techniques to manage stage fright, as the ability to speak comfortably and confidently in public is important in all careers. Students in my course research, write outlines for, and perform personal, informative, and persuasive speeches.
