I have 100 hour of observation hours through my community service through SUNY Cortland. I not only observed classes, but I also tutored through a program called LPP. During my tutoring at LPP, I tutored in both math and Spanish. I was always patient with the students. I would never give them the answer, but instead, I would give them hints on how to approach the answer by asking questions. What I loved most about tutoring is that I was able to help tutor children from under privileged homes. The students would always thank me and that made my day because I was able to help a child succeed through volunteer work.
I plan on furthering my education in grad school to become an English as a Second Language Teacher. I realize that math is one of the hardest subjects for students and I want to help my students want to apply math to their every day lives. If I encourage my students, they will believe in themselves and succeed after high school.
I have tutored in Prealgebra and Algebra during the LPP program. I observed an Algebra 2 class for observation hours and taught many lessons during my 50 hour volunteer work for that semester. I excelled in math back in high school and have reviewed multiple concepts of algebra in the past. I also have completed all the math classes required for a Math Education Bachelor's. I am also a Spanish major and have completed all the required classes as well.
I am mostly available during evenings Monday-Friday because I will be student teaching during the day at Seaford High School and West Babylon Middle School in the Fall, but I am willing to work the weekends as well. Once I finish, I will have a double Bachelor's in Math education and plan on getting my certification in Spanish education as well. So far, I have my Bachelor's in Spanish though.
