About Me:
I am a graduate of Columbia University with a BA in psychology, and a professional actress who has appeared on Broadway, television, and film.

I have worked in highly stressful environments since I was 10 years old. I understand the pressure and responsibility of completing tasks efficiently and capably. My self-determination and focus enabled me to attain a 4.3 GPA in high school while often performing eight shows a week. I scored in the 99th percentile on my ACT and SAT while rehearsing for a Broadway show, and 5s on my APs while performing in that show. At Columbia, I was on the Dean's List multiple semesters while performing as a lead role in an Off-Broadway musical.

My specialties include standardized tests at the middle school, high school, and college level, including the SHSAT, ISEE, SSAT, Hunter test, TACHS, HSPT, ACT, SAT, and GMAT.

What It's Like Working With Me:
We start off with a free phone consultation so I can assess strengths and areas of improvement. Then, I'll have the student take a diagnostic test. We start by reviewing that practice test and then it will vary from there, since all of my sessions are tailored to the student's specific needs. I will provide homework, a regular practice testing schedule, and other supplementary materials. My families receive 5-star treatment: prompt communication, accessibility to me outside of our session times, and advice on test anxiety and study habits.

I enjoy working with my students and find that they connect well to my warm, engaging, and energetic personality. Students tell me they're going to miss me at our final session.

I have been tutoring for the ACT since 2013, helping hundreds of students drastically increase and improve their ACT Math score. My action plan is tailor-made for every student and includes lesson plans, testing timelines, test anxiety work, and accessibility to me between sessions. Unlike other tutors, I teach the concepts in addition to specific ACT strategies, program calculators, and help manage test anxiety. I first teach students how to read actively, so they can fully comprehend the passage and then teach them effective strategies for answering the questions. My students are shocked at how easy this section becomes when they properly annotate. We also work on pacing to maximize scores.

I have been tutoring for the ACT since 2013 and have helped my students achieve up to an 9 point increase in this section. The science section is the most difficult section because it's basically a reading comprehension test and not enough time to read everything! The secret to the science section is finding the pertinent information in the overwhelming chaos of the graphs and tables, and realizing that there are only a couple types of questions that the test asks...Reach out if you want to demystify this section!

I have been tutoring students in Algebra I since 2013. I can tutor Honors Algebra, Regents Algebra, regular Algebra, you name it! I've been tutoring AP Biology, Honors Biology, and Living Environment Regents since 2013 and my students have gotten 5s on their AP exams and As on their tests. I scored a perfect 5 on my AP Biology exam and a 780 on my Biology SAT II (back when those existed). It's fair to say that I love biology! I teach my students how to remember all of the terms that they need to know and how to study effectively for their exams.

I have been tutoring Regents and regular Chemistry since 2013 and have had students increase their confidence and grades, usually within 2-4 weeks (but in extreme cases, sometimes 1-3 months). I make sure to explain the concepts in ways that they understand and am happy to reach out to their teacher to provide the ultimate 360 degree support for my students. I also teach study skills and help students create study plans so that they're confident in between sessions.
Common Core

I have been tutoring students in Common Core Math since 2013. Many of my students are preparing to take the SHSAT, ISEE, or SSAT eventually and would like to have a solid foundation. I use New York's released Common Core test questions for the relevant grade of a student (sometimes using previous grades and eventually using older grades once a student is solid in their current grade). We start with a diagnostic and then review the topics that the student needs to improve. I send targeted homework drills based on the skills we review in class. I am also happy to connect with my student's teacher to make sure that we're on the same page!
COOP/HSPT

COOP/HSPT

I've tutored multiple students for the HSPT, one of which was a semifinalist for the Regis Scholarship to Regis High School, the #1 ranked Catholic High School in the country. I have also had students use the HSPT to qualify for merit scholarships and gain admission to their first choice Catholic high school. I have 11+ years of tutoring experience and tutor all parts of the test. Verbal Skills consists of 60 questions, covering synonyms, antonyms, verbal analogies, verbal classifications and logical reasoning. Quantitative Skills consists of 52 questions, covering number series, number manipulations, and both geometric and non-geometric quantitative comparisons. Reading consists of 62 questions, covering the ability to remember important ideas and significant details, recognizing central thought or purpose, making logical inferences and understanding vocabulary in context. I teach. my students the vocabulary they need to know, how to read actively, and the math concepts on the test. Pacing is very important for this test, so we regularly schedule practice tests to build stamina.

The foundation of my work is to get a student's screen time under control so that they have more time for their homework, personal responsibilities, and friendships! ISEE

I have been tutoring students for the ISEE since 2013. I have helped them achieve an average increase of four stanines (up to 8!). I teach my students how to decipher the hidden meanings and hints in the sentence completions, become active readers for the reading section, and the right math concepts so they can ace the quantitative comparisons and the math achievement, of course!. Some results: 1) from 10th percentile to 98th percentile in math achievement, 2) from 3s and 4s to 7s and 8s, 3) from 4s and 5s to all 8s and 9s. Reach out for more success stories!

I have been tutoring students in prealgebra for 11+ years now. Pre-algebra is the foundation for the rest of a student's academic career and so it's very important to master these skills. I am patient with my students and know how to explain a concept multiple different ways if a student doesn't understand it. Students relate well to my warm, engaging personality. Students often see an immediate increase in confidence and an increase in test scores/grades within 2-12 weeks.

Many juniors are completely unprepared for the PSAT, but this is a mistake because you can win Merit Scholarship money that will greatly lower your tuition costs. I have tutored students who have become Semifinalists and even received merit scholarship money. They then have had an easy time with the SAT and can finish that process quicker so that they can focus on applications/essays.

Reading

I've been teaching middle and high schoolers how to read actively and more efficiently since 2013. I have my students read aloud so that I can catch if there are any learning differences that haven't been noticed yet. I teach students how to use inflection when they read so that they can better process what they're reading. We discuss ways to keep reading exciting so that they aren't bored by what they're being asked to read. I can get any student to read a book for pleasure because I keep curated lists of genres and make sure to pick a book suited to a students' preferences. We also discuss how to read actively by taking annotations and stopping to process and analyze what they've read. I also teach students how to summarize a whole book in a one page chart. Finally, I can can teach a student how to read a 400 page book in 4 hours.
SAT Math

I have been tutoring for the SAT since 2013 and have helped my students achieve up to a 200 point increase in this section. I have studied the Digital SAT extensively and created a heat map of subject matter so that we use our time effectively. My math action plan is tailor-made for every student, but I always make sure to review the concepts first before we talk strategy (there are a couple of handy Desmos shortcuts to help with timing!).

I have been tutoring for the SAT since 2013 and have helped my students achieve up to a 200 point increase in this section. I first teach students how to read actively, so they can fully comprehend the paragraph/passage and then teach them effective strategies for answering the questions. The new Digital SAT may have shorter passages, but they still require the same attention to detail that the paper test did. We will also discuss some shortcuts (ie you don't have to read the notes in the Rhetorical Synthesis passages!)

When I took the SAT, I got an 800 on the writing section (back when the SAT was out of 2400). That score helped me get into Columbia University, where I majored in psychology. I have been tutoring for the SAT for the past five years and have helped my students achieve up to an 100 point increase in this section. We will go over grammar rules first and then work on rhetorical questions after.

I have been tutoring students for the SHSAT since 2013. I have helped them achieve an average increase of 30+ raw score points and get into their first choice. I teach my students the grammar rules for the editing/revising section, become active readers for the reading section, and the right math concepts so they can ace the math section, of course! Some results: 1) 602, admission to Brooklyn Tech (first choice!), 2) 537, admission to Bronx Science (first choice!) 3) 597, admission to Stuyvesant (first choice). SSAT

I have been tutoring for the SSAT since 2013 and have had students receive admission to Andover, Exeter, Hotchkiss, Deerfield Academy, Trinity, Horace Mann, Riverdale and more. We start with a diagnostic test and from there I tailor my sessions to a student's specific strengths and areas of improvement. I regularly see prodigious increases in student's percentiles. Some examples: 1) Starting percentiles: Math: 20, Reading: 40, Verbal: 50, Ending scores: Math: 80, Reading: 90, Verbal: 85 2) Starting percentiles: Math: 50, Reading: 60, Verbal: 60, ending percentiles: Math: 90, Reading: 95, Verbal: 90. Students also see an increase in their math and English scores in school as a bonus!
Study Skills

Study Skills

I teach students the difference between homework and studying and empower them to study in a way that works best for them. First we discuss the study cycle and study senses so we have a common vocabulary to use together. Then we make quizzable study tools, effective study plans, and track habits to beat procrastination. We do a backpack and desk audit and work on organizational skills. I use a Google spreadsheet that's accessible to the parents as well to track habits and grades. I text reminders to students throughout the week as well. It's my goal for a student to take the skills I've taught them and work independently of me!

I have been a professional actress since I was eleven and have performed in numerous regional and Off-Broadway shows. I was in the original Broadway cast of Spring Awakening and can be heard on the Dear Evan Hansen cast album (and in the show every night!). I have studied with the best acting teacher and voice teacher in New York City and know firsthand how to give an excellent audition. Let's work together!
Trigonometry

I have been tutoring trigonometry since 2013. I help students with Honors Trigonometry, Regents Algebra II/Trigonometry, and trigonometry on the ACT. I can also help with Precalculus and Honors Precalculus. I teach students how to memorize the Unit Circle quickly, trigonometric equations, analytic trigonometry, conic sections, rational equations, polynomial functions, and logarithmic/exponential functions. I assign drills for students to use as practice between sessions. Students see an increase in confidence immediately and will usually see an increase in grades within 2-12 weeks.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

The best way to learn vocabulary is through reading complex and nuanced articles and short stories. I have copies of short stories from great classic authors such as Mark Twain and James Joyce. I also provide lists of words that students can learn on their own between sessions. It's very important that parents are active participants in this kind of tutoring, so you will be expected to help drill this vocabulary between sessions.
Writing

I am trained in the Hochman method, an evidence-based writing methodology that is proven to improve expository writing. Although each session is tailored to the student, we usually start at the sentence level (the building block of writing) and then work our way up to writing a paragraph, then multiple paragraphs, then to a full research paper. Students will improve their reading comprehension, grammar skills, and writing in these sessions.
