A bit about my background: I graduated Magna Cum Laude in Cognitive Science and Music at Northwestern University, with a certificate in Marketing. Before that, I trained in violin at Juilliard PreCollege, which taught me what it really takes to master something difficult.

Hi! My name is Eilene, and I'm so glad you're here.
A bit about my background: I graduated Magna Cum Laude in Cognitive Science and Music at Northwestern University, with a certificate in Marketing. Before that, I trained in violin at Juilliard PreCollege, which taught me what it really takes to master something difficult.
I tutor math, ACT prep, and college essays. I scored a 36 on the ACT across all four sections (yes, even science!), so I know the test inside and out and can help students build real strategy for it. I also work one-on-one with students on college essays, from brainstorming a topic to editing drafts until it actually sounds like them. Having lived in NJ and NYC my whole life, I know what activities and stories stand out to admissions committees here. This year alone, students I've coached got into Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Yale, Brown, UPenn, and more.
I've been tutoring one-on-one for about 4 years, mostly working with middle and high schoolers, ages 11 to 18, in math and music. I'm in my second year teaching 6th grade math for General and Special Education, and I'm also finishing up my master's in teaching. I've already passed all my certification exams and I'm just waiting on graduation for my full teaching certificate.
My approach starts with conceptual understanding. Computation gets so much easier once you actually understand the why behind the math. Even in my general classroom of 30 students, I make sure to pull small groups of 5 to 7, working directly with kids who need extra support. I've also held tutoring sessions with students during recess and after school for anyone who wanted more help.
I keep my student list small so I can really focus on each person I work with. Lessons usually involve working through problems together, then practice to build confidence and lock the concept in.
I try to make learning genuinely fun. If you're looking for someone patient, thorough, and genuinely invested in your success, I'd love to work with you!
