Hi! I’m a professional painter and experienced art teacher with over 10 years of teaching students of all ages, from children as young as 7 to college students preparing their art school portfolios, as well as adults returning to art later in life. I offer personalized lessons in drawing, painting (oil, acrylic, water-based media), and collage, drawing on a deep background in both technical skill and emotional connection to the creative process.
I was trained in Korea’s top arts education system from middle school through university, graduating with top honors. Afterward, I moved to the U.S. and earned my MFA from Hunter College in New York City. I’ve been actively showing my work through solo and group exhibitions, and my paintings have been featured in major art fairs. Alongside my career as an artist, I’ve continued to teach because I believe in art’s unique power to help people connect with themselves.
My teaching philosophy centers on helping students build a personal and joyful relationship with art. While I can absolutely support skill-building and portfolio development — and have helped many students prepare for successful art school admissions, my deepest goal is to create a space where anyone, regardless of age or background, can feel free to explore, express, and discover something new about themselves through creative work. For some students, our lessons become a form of meditation or emotional release, not just technical improvement.
Lessons are held in my spacious studio in Long Island City, NY, a working artist’s space where students can learn in an inspiring and professional environment. I offer one-on-one guidance tailored to each student’s level and goals, whether that’s drawing fundamentals, figure painting, or building a college-ready portfolio. I welcome students from all backgrounds, speak fluent English and Korean, and prioritize kindness, curiosity, and openness in every session.
