Experienced tutor passionate about mathematics education

My name is Nick and I have recently graduated from the University at Buffalo with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and am currently pursuing graduate coursework toward my Master of Education (Ed.M.) in mathematics education. I have met all NYS teacher certification requirements and hold a NYS Initial Certification in Mathematics 7-12.

I have worked with primary and secondary students at Mathnasium for the past 5 years. I have also worked with college students through the University at Buffalo as a tutor and teaching assistant for their mathematics department. Additionally, I have most recently been employed as a mathematics teacher at Portledge School.

These experiences have provided me with rich opportunities to work with students at various ability levels. My goal as a mathematics educator is to maintain rigorous expectations for all my students while providing them with engaging, relevant instruction. With mathematics being a rich field, leading students in their exploration of mathematics through high-cognitive demand tasks is a focus of mine. Showing my students how math manifests itself in everyday life can help prepare them to become mathematically literate citizens and open the pathway for them to pursue careers in STEM. I have made it a priority to stay up to date with the latest pedagogical techniques and look forward to working with students one-on-one!
