Are you looking for a compassionate tutor who understands both the human and academic sides of learning? Let me help you achieve your own shining success stories!

When I tutor, I don't tell students what to think; I lead them to think for themselves. My approach is fun and research based, seasoned with growth mindset. Students develop critical thinking skills and confidence.

I’m a certified teacher in New York state; also, I’m a teacher coach and published author. I’ve tutored children and adults, including those with ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. My students consistently make progress and succeed with my help.

Feedback from a student and a parent:
"Susan is an intelligent and willing tutor. She’s been a great resource in my education. We’ve been working together for almost 3 years now, and I’ve seen how much working with her has helped me to improve in the subjects we work on together. I’ve also seen the many different ways she can work a subject. If one way doesn’t work, she can and is willing to try a different approach that best works for you." R, HS student

"I cannot overstate the effect Susan’s tutoring has had on both my children’s lives. Our youngest child, who has ADHD, was over a grade level behind in his math skills. Through working with Susan, he more than caught up a few months later. Most importantly, he started feeling confident about his ability to learn, changed his attitude about school and the narrative some teachers had saddled him with. Susan then started working with our older child, and his grades and confidence likewise soared. During the pandemic, Susan provided focused learning at a time when that was almost impossible to get. As my kids grew up, Susan worked extensively with each of them on their SAT prep and College Board essays; they both were accepted into their dream schools! My family is forever grateful for the impact Susan’s tutoring had on our children’s lives." ECW, Cold Spring, NY

General Computer

General Computer

I am extremely well versed in how computers work. I have been using personal computers since the late 1970s, and I studied engineering in college. I also did a great deal of masters level coursework in technology in education. In addition to having taught classes in technology to schoolchildren, I have been a paid computer consultant in the professional world, including work as a network manager at MIT for several years before changing careers to teaching. I am good at the user level of computers (applications) as well as troubleshooting, hardware, peripherals, and some level of programming/alterations of systems. I enjoy passing on my knowledge about these areas.
Hebrew

Hebrew

Hebrew is my second language; I began learning it formally in first grade. I have lived in Israel and became fluent in the language there, even taking college courses in Hebrew alongside Israeli students and teaching underprivileged children in an after-school program. More recently, I have taught Hebrew in several contexts, including a special needs class, sixth and seventh grade Hebrew in a religious school, and private tutoring.
Macintosh

Macintosh

I have been using Macintosh computers since the first ones and through the present. I was also a Macintosh support professional at MIT and independently before going full time into teaching. There is very little I can't teach or troubleshoot on a Mac.
Special Needs

Special Needs

I have extensive experience beginning in high school working with students with special needs, from physical needs to autistic spectrum disorders. I enjoy helping students learn no matter what their learning differences may be, and approaching any subject through a variety of modalities to find what will work for the student.
Web Design

Web Design

I have designed a number of websites that are active today. I have a website design portfolio available for viewing upon request. This includes websites designed by hand using HTML and PHP, websites based on Wordpress, and a complex e-commerce website based on oscommerce that I modified a great deal. I have also used Dreamweaver and Rapidweaver to facilitate WYSIWYG design, though I am comfortable going in and tweaking the code if there is a problem. In addition to jobs in which I was paid to design and launch sites, I am an active webmaster of several of my own sites, as well as those of two non-profits. I have taught web design to children and young adults, and I enjoy doing so.

Excellent Tutor- Experienced Professional

Susan M is the perfect tutor for my middle school son. I was searching for a tutor who had good reviews working with students who could address his Dyslexic challenges. Susan was perfect, I thought I was hiring a summer tutor for math, what I and my son discovered was a tutor whom has been with us for 1 year now, addressing all subjects especially vocabulary, special projects, test preparation, midterms and final studying techniques and even taught him to manage his homework assignments. My son has even seen his grades improve!! Her patient professional style enables my son to understand the methodology and concepts to the material he is learning. Her vast understanding of many subjects is helping him prepare now this summer for High School- which we plan to keep her for the next 4 years!! Thank you Susan

Great Tutor

Susan has been an excellent tutor, she teach with some methods easy for the children to understand. She has a lot of patient, and she is able to teach different subjects at the elementary grades level. Has a lot of discipline with her job and the children who she teach. I will recommend her highly to any student who need help in their grade.

Great Tutor

I found Susan to be VERY informative about every aspect of the computer. She was very patient with me as I know next to nothing as how to navigate myself around this darn machine. But after a few hours I feel more comfortable and knowledgeable and I'm looking forward to our next lesson.
