Wyatt Reu is an experienced writing and Spanish-language teacher based in New York's Hudson Valley. Wyatt graduated from Bard College with a B.A. in Languages and Literature where he studied Spanish and creative writing (poetry and criticism). He has lived and taught in Mexico and Spain and currently teaches high school Spanish at the Woodstock Day School. At Bard he was a tutor for the Bard College Learning Commons where he worked with advanced Spanish and Literature students on essay composition and revision with a special focus on thesis development and process-oriented writing. He also has experience working one on one with students on Senior Projects/Theses, tutoring learning strategies, and workshopping creative writing.
In teaching and tutoring he follows a Socratic and project-oriented pedagogy in which the focus is on empowering student/writer growth through a mutual engagement in the composition process. In this model, the tutor or teacher's role is to guide the student towards becoming an independent learner by reflecting the student's questions back to them, and encouraging them to take ownership of their learning. A Socratic tutor listens and responds to the current needs of the student and uses the work at hand as a tool to develop universal learning skills. Working with Wyatt will not only help you with whatever project or subject you are currently struggling with, but will give you the tools you need to become a self-sufficient learner.
