Math is a subject that differs from all others. Math builds off previous knowledge. if there is a missing piece of the puzzle moving forward can be very difficult. It only takes one simple plus or minus, or one positive or negative sign to throw a student off. I analyze each student to figure out what the missing piece is. I start from the ground up and make sure that everyone I teach can not only do the work accurately, but understands why they're doing it. Knowledge begins with the fundamentals.
As a native to this country I not only have thorough knowledge of the English language and the usage and mechanics of it, but the experience to teach it. When I incorporate writing and grammar in my lessons I do so word by word, sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph. I see to it that writing and grammar doesn't become a chore to children, but rather an amazing way of expressing themselves.
Phonics is a great way to achieve excellent writing skills. The English language can be difficult for some, do to the combining of letters that make completely different sounds than what they appear to make. Through play and sentence building I incorporate phonics in a way that children don't even realize they are being taught. Written words become part of who they are.
I believe that all children have the potential to be great; however, without the proper foundation and building blocks, achieving greatness can be difficult.
