I have a lot of experience tutoring at this point. During high school, I participated in a peer tutoring program through National Honor Society, where I tutored peers who felt that they needed extra help in a subject area. I mostly specialized in math and science. I also volunteered at an after school program to tutor elementary school students from underserved backgrounds. Additionally, in the summer after high school I began tutoring online on Chegg.com (formerly InstaEDU), and have countless hours of tutoring experience on the site, helping students primarily in math and science, but also in a variety of fields: I often found myself helping them write college and school essays, work through the Common Application, and helping them get a firm grasp of American history.
I find that it's best when I work with students when I work at their pace, whether it is "fast" or "slow". Receiving feedback from students when they are understanding something and we can move on or when they are struggling with a concept and need to spend more time on it is key. I work with students to find out what style works bet for them and I run with it... and of course, it is important to maintain a friendly attitude so they don't feel intimidated or reluctant to ask questions that they may feel are too basic.
Through tutoring, I have gotten to know many of the students and how they learn, and I have guided them in their personal development. I see teaching others as a way to help others as well as to develop myself.
I love to tutor math. I got a perfect score on the math ACT and a 35 composite score (34 reading, 36 math, 35 science, 35 writing) and love to help people understand math concepts. Additionally I got a perfect score on the Math Level 2 and American History SAT Subject Tests.
