About Gilant

I have been tutoring for a while, and I truly enjoy making a difference through academics. My students vary from Kindergarten through grade 12, as well as college students for Algebra and Writing. I tutor a variety of subjects but mainly Mathematics and English, Reading, and Writing for elementary. For high school students, most NY State Regents examinations and the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). FOR 5 CONSECUTIVE YEARS, I have 100% of students whom I tutored, pass the NYS ELA, Mathematics and Science - Core examinations. I try to simplify the topics, provide practice materials, so the students can have a better understanding. When a student does well, I feel like I have done well. Some of the students have told me that they wish I was their teacher.

I truly enjoy what I do and love children/people.

Britney, thank you. You are truly amazing. When I first met you, you were so intimidated by Mathematics. However, you never gave up. You did all your assignments, you always tried, and you were very determined to do well. As I watched you grow academically strong and more determined, it forced me to challenge you more, but you never backed down. I am proud of your achievement and know that there are many more waiting for you. It is my honor and pleasure to continue working with you for a successful future. You also have two of the best and most supportive parents and that helps too.

I am proud of him, and I agree with you about the length of time to prepare for both exams.

"Very practical"

- Revington, Springfield Gardens, NY on 7/10/12
Gilant replied on 6/27/2013

Although I appreciate the comment, I must say that not all students are average, and some students exceed what was originally expected of them. Some students just need a little motivation, and others need a little bit more. One student scores jumped to a 92% overall in Algebra, although she only scored an 85% on her Algebra Regents. Her final score for Earth Science was an 88%, although she only scored an 82% on the Regents exam. Last year a student who scored a little over 1600 on her SATs, with my help ended up scoring a 1950, when she took the exam again. She also took Math II of the SAT 2, did very well, and will be attending the University of Massachusetts in the fall. Thanks for the comments, but not all students are created equally. I am happy to say that your daughter has passed the Integrated Algebra Regents exam, Living Environment and now Geometry. So proud of her. Global History is next.

"Very thorough, patient and pleasant."

- Annie, Far Rockaway, NY on 7/3/12
Gilant replied on 12/25/2012

Thank you Annie. Your daughter is a smart, young lady who enjoys doing well in school and is willing to put in the time and work to accomplish this. She has a bright future ahead of her.

"Thank You"

- Tanya, New York, NY on 6/13/12
Gilant replied on 6/27/2013

Thank you Tanya. Some days I hardly recognize her because of how confident she is! She faces each Math problem without hesitation, understands most time by the first example, and retains the information! This is one student that I am very proud of and speaks often about, especially when I meet students with the same fear of math that she originally had. Her grades continue to be strong for someone who is not a fan of Mathematics. She finished with an 89% in Integrated Algebra and an 81% in Geometry. So Proud of her.

Thank you Naomy. I truly enjoy working with your son. He is such a polite student. He has a great team behind him; you and the family. You are the kind of Mother who makes sure that your son completes all assignments and you do not complain about the challenges or the assignments that I give him. I was very happy today when you text me that he scored all 4s on his report card. He has come so far, from scoring 1 and 2. So proud of him.

"Nice person but disorganized with scheduling appointments"

- Madelynne, Rosedale, NY on 10/19/11
Gilant replied on 11/16/2012

I am a tutor and an education coach. My priority is to help that student to focus and learn, and perhaps develop new study habits and practices. While I was working with your son at your home, the television was on loudly a few feet away, and every time someone was going in and out of the house noisily. We agreed that he would be tutored at my home where I tutor other students as well. He seemed to be a little more focus and became a little more confident. Also, he was in an environment where other students are doing the same as he is. On the last appointment he told me that the topic I covered with him in Math, his teacher taught it a week later, and he was able to understand and did well. Your son told me that he was feeling more confident about going to high school next year. I decided to give his writing some more attention, and spent an hour trying to help him. He was a little resistant. So I suggested to you and your husband that we meet once per week at the library where I would work with only him to improve his writing. When a student does well or show improvement I will 'sing' praises accordingly. If that student needs to know what to do for improvement, then I have to state that too. I think that with encouragement, diligence and a little 'nudge' your son would have been writing and doing math much better. All the best to both of you.

"Disorganized and unprofessional tutor"

- Carolyn, Bronx, NY on 7/18/11
Gilant replied on 7/20/2011

I met with Carolyn and her daughter on Wednesday, July 13th. They were both 10 minutes late. Her daughter is a lovely young lady who wants to learn more and pass her Algebra Regents exam. She was very attentive and asked questions when she was not sure. After the session, I told her that she needs more practice sessions, which she agreed. I told her that I would speak to Carolyn. That evening I called Carolyn and told her that her daughter needs much practice to pass the exam. Anyway, Carolyn said that she would get back to me but never did. Another parent wanted the time slot. I told that mother I would have to get back to her. I text Carolyn but and called her but she never responded. So I gave the time to the other parent.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I have a BBA degree in Accounting, and would like to give subjects in this area a try. I have had to take subjects such as Management courses, economics, Business Law I and II, marketing and more. Hopefully, you will give me a chance at this subject area.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am currently tutoring students from K-6th grade, and have been doing well. I would love the opportunity to do so through WyzAnt. I am a tutor who tutors students from K - grade 7. I am certified through Wyzant for grammar, reading and writing at the Elementary level.

Many of my students are from Kindergarten to 6th grade. I tutor them with reading and writing as well as Math. I have had to teach children to write, pronounce vowels (with emphasis on long and short sounds). Teach them to associate words with pictures, help them with their verbs and nouns, adverbs, punctuations and more. I

For Regents Algebra: I have a 99% pass for the Regents Algebra including students from Wyzant. I am detail oriented. I provide practice exercises from start to finish with the student, including topics and questions that are similar to those on a Regents exam. I try to spend as much time as that student may need, and provide a variety of practice exercises.

Algebra II/Trigonometry:I cover as much topics as the student needs or all the topics, especially the ratio of those most pertinent to the Regents exam. From Algebraic expressions, Functions and Relations, Composition and Inverses of Functions, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Trigonometric Functions and their graphs and more.

I provide all and or most of the practice materials for each and every subject. I can assist with Global History, Earth Science, Physics and English, of which I have 100% pass. For Geometry the rate is 99% pass. A few of the students have been from Wyzant in the last year.

Study Skills

I assist the student with building vocabulary, roots, prefixes and suffixes. I help the student to understand nouns, verbs, adverbs and adjectives (their similarities and differences), and when and how to use them. I help the student to build Reading Comprehension skills and Writing. I give the student an assessment test, after which I work to build the student where he or she needs it most, while applying the student's strength to compliment and improve the overall study skills.

Tax Preparation

I am a Professional Tax Preparer. I have a BBA in Accounting and work really hard during the tax season.
