Hi, and welcome to my profile! Most of my students call me Ms. D. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, with an emphasis in Machine Learning, from Brigham Young University Idaho. That background gives me a strong foundation in logic, patterns, and problem solving, which is the heart of everything I teach. I specialize in middle school mathematics for students in grades 5 through 8, covering fractions, ratios, proportions, integers, expressions, and solving two step equations, and I am comfortable supporting the topics that tend to trip students up right before they move on to algebra.
I have several years of experience coaching middle school students in math, working both one on one and in small groups, and I have also taught in a full classroom setting through Success Academy. Across these settings I have worked with the same age range, roughly ten to fourteen year olds, so I know how this group thinks, where they get stuck, and how to keep them engaged. I use a structured approach that breaks intimidating topics into small, masterable steps, pairs each concept with guided practice, and keeps parents informed so that progress during our sessions carries over at home. My teaching style is what I call firm and warm: I hold students to a high standard because I believe they are capable of more than they realize, but I create a space that feels safe, patient, and free of judgment.
What sets me apart is that most of my students do not come to me lacking ability, they come to me having lost confidence, and rebuilding that confidence is exactly what I am good at. I know how to make a reluctant learner feel capable again, how to explain the same idea three different ways until one clicks, and how to turn math from a source of dread into something a student feels ready to take on. If you want a tutor who is patient, organized, and genuinely invested in your child's growth, I would be glad to work with you and help your student build real, lasting confidence in math.
