I’m Leora! I am a teacher with a strong passion for reading, writing, and thinking through complex ideas. One of my core teaching beliefs is simple but powerful: asking questions.
I bring this belief directly into my tutoring approach. I value the Socratic method and prioritize questioning as a key part of the learning process. Rather than focusing on perfection, I encourage students to investigate their own thinking, build confidence in their ideas, and arrive at answers independently. I strive to create a non-judgmental, supportive environment where students feel comfortable expressing themselves and taking intellectual risks.
I have over a year and a half of experience tutoring elementary students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade in ELA and math, supporting skills in writing, reading comprehension, grammar, and NYS ELA test preparation through individualized instruction. I have also worked with high school students on ELA Regents exam preparation, focusing on close reading, essay writing, and test-taking strategies. In addition, I have a year of experience peer tutoring college students in writing and English, supporting a wide range of assignments including lab reports, research papers, theses, and personal statements.
