I have over 20 years’ experience teaching algebra, geometry, algebra II/trig and pre-calculus in a classroom setting and almost 25 years’ experience tutoring those subjects which includes grade 5 through 12 NYS Common Core . As a magna cum laude graduate of St. John’s University, (3.73) my experience began with tutoring at the Higher Educational Opportunity Program. I expanded to independent tutoring and further developed as a classroom teacher whose skills I continue to hone.

My optimal classroom teaching style is by utilizing the Smartboard and Tablet using a grading and homework input system of Plus Portals and Educate. Math textbooks and lessons have been on line to insure off campus access to students and parents. If I have inspired a student, I feel gratified. If I notice that a student has an unusual passion for a topic, I create challenges designed to empower rather than to simply praise. I discourage cookie cutter style teaching methods which only “teach” to the masses yet overlook individual needs.
I believe that learning is not limited to the classroom and take the opportunity to sponsor cultural arts trips to the opera and symphony as well as academic trips to the National Museum of Mathematics in Manhattan. Sometimes a trip to the ballgame is in order.
Parental involvement is paramount but not always possible. Many of my students have been considered at-risk and often come from single parent families. Sensitivity to this situation requires special understanding. In all scenarios cooperation among student, teacher and parent is the ideal means of insuring that optimal academic and emotional growth takes place.

I have taught SAT prep in school and have tutored for the MATH SAT for over 10 years independently. I have seen three different forms of the SAT since I initially taught classes.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

John taught my son Algebra. I like how he is so patient and explain the Algebra with so easy way. My son loves his way. He used to hate the tutoring. But now he likes to stay longer with John. Thank you, John.
