Hello! My name is Maria, and I was born and raised in New York City. I’m so glad you're considering embarking on an artistic journey! I am a certified Career and Technical Education (CTE) instructor and currently teaching art at the Board of Education. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the School of Visual Arts and a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. With over 12 years of experience in teaching high school and tutoring students after school, I have built a solid foundation in teaching the principles of art. My students range in age from 13 to 18. My work has been displayed in both corporate and private collections, and I’ve had the honor of exhibiting at places like the Abend Gallery and RJD Gallery. I also had a solo show at the Luisa Capetillo Gallery in the MNN Building. My awards include the Hudson Valley Art Association’s 89th, 90th, and 91st Annual Juried Exhibitions, winning the Georgie Read Barton Memorial Award in 2022, the Harold Stevenson & Alma Gallanos Teachers Award in 2023, and the Blue Door Art Center Award in 2024.
I specialize in teaching drawing and painting, focusing on building fundamental art skills. The lessons begin with understanding the underlying structure of all forms—an essential skill that can be applied to any subject, such as the human body or still life. Supplies comprise of pencils, kneaded erasers, blending tortillons, and charcoal to bring your drawings to life. When we move on to painting, I’ll provide you with a list of supplies.
I offer a free consultation meeting before you commit to the class to ensure it’s the right fit for you. Feel free to check out my work on Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, or my website at mariajimenezartist.com. To accommodate other students, a 24-hour cancellation notice is required.
I look forward to hearing from you and scheduling a lesson soon! Thank you for your interest!
