The key to competitive college admissions is finding the right story to tell. It can't be fabricated, because it already exists within the grades, test scores, and extracurricular activities that a student has earned and participated in throughout their four years in high school. It is the applicant's task to combine these facts with thoughtful essays that present a clear narrative that succinctly presents the admissions officer with the case for their acceptance. With my support, any student can focus their story into an effective admissions packet.

I have four years of in-person tutoring experience in English and Writing. Through thoughtful guidance and editing support, I have helped my tutees gain admissions to dream schools including UVA and William & Mary.
I earned a nearly-perfect score of 790 out of 800 on the November 2018 SAT Reading & Writing Section (1500 SuperScore for the SAT as a whole), and a total score of 21 on the Essay portion.
My writing has been featured in the New York Times editorial essay contest, as well as in several minor publications. The admissions officer that admitted me to Cornell sent a note with my admissions decision specifically mentioning my essay as a major factor in my acceptance.

Through careful planning of my extracurricular activities, supplemental essays, artistic supplements and Common Application essays, I was the first in my family to attend college in the United States. I was accepted into Cornell University, Carnegie Mellon University, George Washington University, and the Rhode Island School of Design, among others. I provide students with the same tools that I used; namely crafting a narrative through every piece of information sent to their colleges and a careful attention to detail for the application as whole. A compelling story, told mostly in essays and grades and supported by extracurricular activities and supplements, is the key to gaining an edge in the competitive admissions process.

As a student, I wrote one of the few International Baccalaureate Literature Extended Essays to get a perfect score. I have extensive knowledge on both literary techniques and how to interpret and use them to excel in high-level essay writing on any topic. I've tutored many students on analytical and college application essays, and they consistently report a high level of satisfaction in their work and a new level of confidence in writing.

My work as an artist has appeared in the New York Times and has been awarded Scholastic Art Keys (2019 and 2020). As a tutor, I specialize in setting a strong foundation of key artistic concepts, focusing on light, value, anatomy, form, and color; and then refining the expression of the student through those means.

Great Writing Tutor

My 9 grade daughter need improve writing to pass WIDA next April. Maria did a great job starting from WIDA assessement, to reading analysis and writing practice. Although there is still a long way to go, but we see a hope and are more confident for future progress, after Maria's daily tutoring from this winter break. We definitely will continue with her.

Good stuff!

Maria was approachable and my daughter came out of her session and had a sheet with pointers and ideas that she hadn't even considered before. Seems to me like the beginning of a beautiful friendship. Thanks, Maria!
