Hi there, I'm Rebecca. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Environmental Science from Lynchburg College in Lynchburg, VA. After managing an emergency animal clinic for several years, I decided to return to school to get my Master's in Environmental Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. My research focus was on environmental ethics, specifically with the ethics associated with international and domestic environmental policy. I am a firm believer that an instructor, particularly in elementary education can either set a student up for long-term success or a long-term struggle. I believe it is important to find what a student is interested in, and translate that interest into the subject at hand. This way, the material is interesting, fun, and ensures long-term engagement.
Before moving to NY, I assisted with the development of K-12 all-encompassing sustainability education. This meant incorporating a multitude of foci into single subjects, like geometry, civics, and elementary math. Additionally, as a graduate student, I held a Teaching Assistant position for a 300-level undergraduate class focusing on sustainability issues within the James River Basin region. Specifically, we focused on issues associated with social equity, fossil fuels, water quality, and human health.
It is my hope to build a trusting and fun relationship with students so that they develop a love for learning as it applies to their lives.
I struggled with math in elementary and middle school and learned life changing habits that still help me today.
