Bio

Ever since middle school, I've loved helping my peers understand math and science, and I am excited to bring that passion to tutoring on Wyzant! I graduated first in my high school class of 500 students with an unweighted 4.0 GPA, completing GATE/Honors/AP coursework in Algebra I and II, Geometry, Precalculus, Trigonometry, AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Statistics, AP Envir. Sci., Honors Chemistry, and Honors Physics, earning A's in all of them. Throughout all four years of high school I worked as a...

Throughout all four years of high school I worked as a math tutor covering every level and subject, and I was always the person my friends came to when they needed help with homework or wanted to study for a big test, something I truly enjoyed then and still do today.

I went on to earn a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from UC Irvine (3.85 GPA) and then an M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering with a Robotics/AI minor from Cornell University. My academic background spans calculus-based physics, calculus (I - IV), general chemistry, differential equations, linear algebra, statics, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, dynamics, heat transfer, control theory, statistics, robotics, and machine learning. At Cornell, I served as a Teaching Assistant for both an undergraduate Dynamics course and a graduate-level Robot Perception course, holding weekly office hours and one-on-one sessions for students at all levels.

My approach is all about meeting students where they are and making concepts click in a way that actually sticks. I love working with enthusiastic students who want to genuinely understand the material, not just memorize it. I am available online via Zoom or any video platform and welcome students from middle school through college level.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I've received A's in every math course I've ever taken from Algebra to Multivariable Calculus and Differential Equations. I have helped and tutored peers for years across various math subjects.
Machine Learning/ AI

Machine Learning/ AI

I've taken multiple machine learning courses during undergrad and grad school, including Introduction to Machine Learning, Intelligent Sensor Planning and Control, Advanced Topics in Machine Learning—Learning in Feedback Systems, and Computer Vision. I also earned a minor in Artificial Intelligence during my Ph.D. at Cornell University for my dissertation research on Holistic Scene Understanding for Real-Time Human-Autonomy Interaction and Teaming
MATLAB

MATLAB

I've used MATLAB since I took ENGRMAE 10 (Introduction to Engineering Computations) in my first year of undergrad at UC Irvine. The course taught elementary programming, numerical analysis, and data visualization using MATLAB, and I received an A. Since then, I've used MATLAB for undergraduate courses at UC Irvine (Vibrations, Mechanics of Materials, Feedback Control, etc.) as well as for graduate courses at Cornell (Dynamics, Multivariable Control, Model-Based Estimation, Autonomous Mobile Robots, etc.). It's one of my strongest programming languages alongside Python, C++, and R.
Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

I have my B.S. from the University of California--Irvine (June 2020), and my M.S. and Ph.D. from Cornell University (Dec 2024 and Dec 2025), all in mechanical engineering. I can tutor most undergraduate-level courses such as statics, dynamics, mechanics of materials, electric circuits, fluid mechanics, vibrations, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and control theory.
Robotics

Robotics

I was a graduate student researcher for the Laboratory for Intelligent Systems and Controls (LISC) for 5 years while pursuing my PhD in mechancial engineering (AI minor) at Cornell. My dissertation was titled "Holistic Scene Understanding for Real-Time Human-Autonomy Interaction and Teaming," and I have multiple publications in robotics-related subjects for both journals and conferences. I most recently served as a postdoctoral researcher for the LISC lab, where my research focus included robot perception and information-driven planning and control.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor.

Andre P. has been an outstanding tutor who helped me tackle some of the most challenging areas of my engineering studies. He guided me through Mechanical Engineering concepts, breaking down complex topics with clarity and patience. His support with Electrical Engineering was equally impressive, he made circuit analysis and theory much more approachable. He also helped me build a strong foundation in Fluid Mechanics, which I had previously struggled with. Thanks to Andre, I've gained real confidence across all three subjects. I highly recommend him to any engineering student looking for expert guidance! Luis De Leon

Incredibly knowledgeable and helpful

Andre was exceptionally helpful in not only breaking down how to make subprograms in CNC machining in a way I could understand, but also generous enough to work with me on how to do subprograms in both Absolute and Incremental programs.

He gives thorough explanations and tailors the lesson based on my needs, wants, and areas that need improvement! Very flexible and patient. Definitely does not judge when mistakes are made!
