Hi! I'm Tailai, a CS student at Cornell University and incoming Google software engineering intern with nearly 6 years of tutoring experience, and a strong background in math, programming, and technical problem solving. I've completed rigorous coursework while maintaining an honors GPA, including Data Structures & Algorithms, Machine Learning, Database Systems, Discrete Structures, Calc 1-3, Linear Algebra, Statistics/Probability, and Computer Organization.

I have worked across multiple educational settings to mentor students of various ages. My teaching experiences include:

- High School Tutoring - provided academic support in math and computer science subjects
- Mathnasium - led group tutoring sessions while providing individual mentoring
- Online tutoring (ClassUp) - Delivered one-on-one instruction through digital platforms, adapting teaching material and style for remote learning environments

My technical expertise spans multiple areas including software engineering, AI/ML, robotics, and math. I'm fluent in multiple languages (Java, Python, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, OCaml, Verilog). My technical experience outside of classes includes:

- Technical Lead at a health-tech startup, developing a full-stack web app and conducting quality assurance
- AI/ML and robotics research both at Cornell and the University of Utah
- CS subteam on CUAD, working on computer vision and autonomous navigation

I've also worked on multiple side projects, winning hackathons and presenting my work, including:
- LockD (BigRed//Hacks Finalist) - a smart lock system with remote control and email/push notifications
- CritterEvo (presented at Cornell BOOM) - an artificial life simulator with genetic inheritance and mutation, and custom AI.

Nothing is more rewarding to me than to spark a passion in my students and watch them grow both as a person and student. I would love to work with you and your child to bring out their inner curiosity so they can become life-long learners.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I took the ACT in March of 2022 and scored a perfect score of 36 across all sections. I also have more than three years of tutoring experience in math similar to the ACT from high school tutoring, Mathnasium, and ClassUp.
AMC (Competition math)

AMC (Competition math)

Throughout middle school and high school, I competed in math competitions from the chapter to national level, such as MATHCOUNTS, AMC, ARML, and AIME. I mastered the material from the Art of Problem Solving Series, took myself an AMC prep course, and qualified for the AIME twice. I've always enjoyed competition math, and have since then taken rigorous math courses at Cornell, such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Statistics and Probability, Discrete Math, and Analysis of Algorithms.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming

As a CS student at Cornell University, I have taken multiple programming courses, earning an A average (Intro Programming, OOP and Data Structures, Functional Programming). I'm fluent in multiple programming languages (Python, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, C/C++, Ocaml). I'm also currently a Technical Lead at a health tech startup, a research assistant at two different AI/robotics lab, and part of the CS subteam on Cornell Autonomous Drone working on computer vision and navigation. Additionally, I have also applied my programming experience to build various side projects of my own.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I'm a student studying CS at Cornell University, and have taken rigorous CS and math courses while maintaining an honors GPA. I'm fluent in multiple programming languages, and have experience as Technical Lead at a startup, doing AI/ML research at Cornell and the University of Utah, and as part of the CS subteam on an autonomous drone project team. I've also worked on multiple side projects, winning hackathons and presenting at the Cornell CS Department.
Data Structures

Data Structures

I have extensive experience through my classes, having taken Data Structures and Objected-Oriented Programming, and Data Structures and Functional Programming, and Analysis of Algorithms at Cornell. I have put these topics to use in my own work and projects, implementing complex autonomous systems and rigorously implementing and analyzing algorithms. I also have completed at least 100 LeetCode Problems through CodePath, NeetCode, and LeetCode itself.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

I took proof-based Discrete Math and Analysis of Algorithms at Cornell University receiving an A grade, and as such have a lot of experience working with and proving concepts in discrete math and its applications in algorithmic analysis.
Java

Java

I have over 5 years of experience programming with Java. I have taken rigorous courses at Cornell University, implementing data structures and algorithms with Java while achieving an A grade. I have also created projects of my own using Java, including a complex artificial life simulator, which has over 6000 lines of code.
Python

Python

I'm very fluent in Python and have used the language in a wide variety of applications. I've built out the backend of a hackathon winning smart lock system with Python, I use Python in my current AI/robotics research at both Cornell and the University of Utah, and also have a lot of experience using Python for technical interview prep.

Outstanding Tutoring Experience with Tailai

Tailai We had a wonderful experience with Tailai, who recently tutored my middle school son in AMC math. He demonstrated not only a deep understanding of the subject but also a genuine ability to explain complex concepts in a clear and encouraging way. My son felt more confident after each session and truly looked forward to learning with him. It’s clear that Tailai cares about helping students grow, both in skills and in mindset. We’re grateful for the positive impact he had and would highly recommend Tailai to any family looking for a dedicated and talented math tutor.
