Hi! I’m Jacqulyn (Jackie). I hold a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and I bring over seven years of experience teaching literature, composition, and academic writing to undergraduates. I’ve also worked extensively as a Writing Center instructor, helping students across disciplines develop clarity and confidence in their writing.

My tutoring is grounded in the belief that strong writing and critical thinking skills are both learnable and empowering. My approach is tailored to each student’s needs, combining close attention to language (there is nothing so satisfying as finding the right word or way to express something!) with a broader focus on developing ideas and arguments. I draw from years of experience in the classroom to help students not only meet assignment expectations, but also build habits of revision, reflection, and independent thought that will serve them well beyond any single project.

I’d be delighted to help you out if you’re looking for guidance in any kind of writing. Whether you’re scrambling to finish up a term paper, or nail that college application essay, or even finesse that cover letter for a job—I’m here for you. I welcome those who are looking for help at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming and outlining to editing and polishing. And I especially enjoy working with international or English as a second language students who may need just a bit more help sounding polished on the page (fun fact: apart from English, my first language, I have training in three other languages—French, Malay, and Mandarin).

I offer virtual meetings that typically last for an hour, though this can be adjusted depending on your needs and preferences. If you’re interested in working together and want to learn more about how I can support your goals, please do get in touch to schedule a lesson!
