I'm Luca! I'm a junior at Cornell University studying Biological Sciences. For the past year, I have been a teaching assistant for General Chemistry I, where I lead weekly exam prep sessions with 10-20 students and tutor two to three students one-on-one per semester. As a teacher, I love devoting my time to making my students passionate about the subject, or at least giving them a deep understanding of it. While I have not yet gathered a large volume of experience, I am incredibly proud of the results my students have achieved. Last year, I used an intensive two-week program to bring a student's score from 20% (practice exam) to 70% (real exam), nearly a standard deviation above the class average.

My lessons focus on problem-solving strategies and foundational understanding. We begin by reviewing homework—usually no more than three questions designed to reinforce the methods we focused on last time and apply them in new contexts. We work together to extract basic rules for approaching questions from these and other, simpler questions on the student's terms (i.e. in language that the student has derived themselves and understands). To finish the lesson, we take a look at more challenging questions to practice skill application. For instance, if we're working on Lewis structures in chemistry, we might begin with a few problems that each illustrate one problem-solving "rule" before moving to a few more complex problems that require the integration of multiple rules.

In the subjects I tutor—chemistry, biology, and math—I have scored A's or above in all of my classes in college and high school and 5's on AP Exams (Chemistry, Biology, Calculus AB). I understand how it feels to both struggle through a seemingly impossible class and receive tutoring that inspires confidence and passion, so it's my mission to bring that to my students.

Approved Subjects

Biology

Biology

Biological sciences major at Cornell university with 4.1 GPA and A or A+ in all biology courses.
Chemistry

Chemistry

For the past two years, I have been a teaching assistant for Cornell University's General Chemistry I class. In my role as a TA, I lead weekly exam-level problem-solving sessions and conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions with several students per semester. During my group sessions, I answer questions about the problems as students solve them and guide them towards solutions while forcing them to continually challenge themselves. During my individual tutoring, I focus on the foundational concepts of chemistry and problem-solving strategies that students can use to solve a variety of problems.
MCAT

MCAT

I am a pre-medical student studying biological sciences at Cornell University. With expertise and past tutoring experience in chemistry, organic chemistry, and genetics, and a 526 MCAT score, I am well-prepared to help students studying for the test both with subject-specific content and general test-taking strategies. As a current student, I am also very familiar with the experiences and unique challenges and resources of current college students.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I am currently a student at Cornell University with over 300 hours of tutoring and teaching assistant experiment in STEM. Despite some schools going test-optional, a great SAT score is still a key factor in admission to the country's top universities. I scored a 1550 with a perfect score in the math section, and have extensive experience in tailoring my teaching style to fit the needs of my students.
Writing

Writing

I am a writer and editor for Birds of the World, a website hosted by Cornell University. For BOW, I revise articles on a variety of bird species before publication. My job involves editing for grammar, clarity, style, and proofreading.

Fantastic, best tutor I’ve ever had

Luca was patient but kept up with my pace when I knew some of the material. He was very clear and explained things a lot better than any of my Orgo professors. He has clear mastery over the subject and an intense passion that is magnetic.
