Hello! My name is Paul and I hold a PhD in Medieval Studies from Cornell University. I have studied the Latin Language for over ten years in its historical development from the Classical period (1st century BC) to the Renaissance (15th century AD). In my PhD work at Cornell, I studied how Latin education developed in the early Middle Ages (780-1020 AD). I have experience teaching Latin at the collegiate level and tutoring middle and high schoolers in Latin grammar. I also facilitate a Medieval Latin Reading Group at Cornell that has run for five years. The group has introduced undergraduate and graduate students to the grammar and morphology of Medieval Latin. I am an enthusiastic reader and teacher of Latin in all its varieties. I like to approach tutoring the language through students' interests from Virgil and Cicero to the Bible and Theology to medieval songs like the Carmina Burana. Latin opens up an entire universe of culture and learning.

I also have over a decade of experience tutoring high school and college age students in reading and writing. At Florida State, I tutored first-year students and student athletes and helped them brainstorm, draft, and edit their papers and essays. Recently, I served as the assistant director at the Cornell Writing Center, where I assisted graduate students in the humanities and STEM fields edit and polish their writing. I have helped students study for the SAT, edit applications for undergraduate and graduate programs, and write compelling and analytical research papers.

I am passionate about education and strive to provide learners of all levels the best possible instruction. I am willing to work with any and all materials parents or students supply and will respond promptly to questions and comments. I look forward to working with you!

I have studied the poetry and philosophy of Rome and its reception in the Middle Ages for over ten years. I specialize in hexameter verse (Virgil, Lucretius, Statius) and Stoic philosophy (mainly Seneca). I have taught both subjects for 5+ years to first-year students at Cornell and have led regular reading groups.
