The learning process should be a fun and rewarding experience, driven by the student. My greatest pleasure as a teacher is seeing my students surprise themselves by creating something they didn’t know they were capable of.

The learning process should be a fun and rewarding experience, driven by the student. My greatest pleasure as a teacher is seeing my students surprise themselves by creating something they didn’t know they were capable of.

With a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, I have taught college and high school students at the City University of New York for the past 12 years in the subjects such as Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, Art History, Art Theory, and The Artist in Society. I also teach popular courses at the Brooklyn Brainery: Classic Drawing and the Casual Art Critic. Through these experiences, I have pioneered a unique teaching technique to fast track the learning process which has yielded great success for first time learners and seasoned artists alike.

My teaching style is based on the idea that everyone shares the capacity to develop knowledge, skill and talent and the teacher's role is to find the techniques that work with each individual to maximize those capacities. My intervention is helping students develop their ability to see and to understand.

My experiences in the field range from the classroom setting to one on one tutoring to leading small group exercises. The students I teach come from a wide variety of backgrounds and abilities. Some are in the process of learning English; some are established professionals; some are high school students. With each student, I reach an understanding of where they are coming from and their educational goals and figure how my engagement can best help them achieve their goals.

As a practicing artist and curator, I can help aspiring put together portfolios for college entrance or juried exhibitions. As a writer, I can help students with writing and grammar, utilizing vocabulary, and ESL students.

Let me put my unique skills to use for you.

Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and Goldsmiths College, I have taught for the City College of New York for the past 12 years in the subjects and skills such as Drawing, Painting, Sculpture, Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, Art History, Art Theory, and The Artist in Society. I also teach popular courses at the Brooklyn Brainery: Classic Drawing, Anatomy, and The Casual Art Critic. Photography

Photography

Trained at the Rhode Island School of Design and Goldsmiths College, I have taught for the City College of New York and the Brooklyn Brainery for 12 years. While my main approach to photography focuses on how to see, helping students develop composition, color and contrast to further their visions, I can also help with the technical aspects of editing in Photoshop and studio lighting.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As a college professor, my main art is that of public speaking, engaging students and communicating pertinent information. It is a skill that is essential for all professionals, but one that may be the most intimidating. I work on this skill with all my students, no matter the subject matter I am teaching, because the same few rules and practices apply to public speaking in all fields. I always start with how to build confidence in this arena and then fine tune the art form.
