I am Samantha! I graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s degree from SUNY Cortland. I majored in Biology and received minors in Mathematics and Chemistry. My favorite courses were zoology, vertebrate biology, ecology, evolutionary analysis, genetics, and calculus. These courses are memorable because of the interesting content and the professors. The professors of these courses were engaging, encouraged students, and were always there to help. They are who I emulate while tutoring. For me, tutoring is about helping students better understand material while simultaneously building confidence and igniting a desire to learn.
While in college, I was a Supplemental Instruction Leader for multiple biology courses. I primarily focused on general biology and zoology. As a Leader, I facilitated the learning of students with a focus on breaking down difficult material and developing stronger studying techniques. Supplement Instruction required me to work with small groups of students and occasionally work one on one. This was a highlight of my time in college. Helping students better understand material over the 6 semesters I was a Leader was incredibly rewarding. Similarly, I have a semester of experience as a Laboratory TA for a general biology course which involved helping students understand the directions, answering questions, and asking questions to further their understanding.
I have tutored multiple students individually in Algebra 1.
I received my B.S. in Biology and have numerous years of experience as a Supplemental Instruction Leader. This involved working with college students on material from numerous biology courses.
My primary goal is to help students therefore, I encourage and welcome any resources and materials students can provide. I am always fast to respond. Please feel free to contact me with additional questions or to schedule a lesson!
