I’m a performer of trombone and baritone horn with a variety of experience covering reading, ear training, composition, arrangement, instrumental technique, improvisation and more. I’m a performer of trombone and baritone horn with a variety of experience covering reading, ear training, composition, arrangement, instrumental technique, improvisation and more. My lifelong passion for music theory is tempered by a practical understanding of how to seek the best explanation of concepts for individual musicians at many different skill levels.

I hold a B.A. in Musical Acoustics, Composition and Performance from Hampshire College with studies at the Hartt School of Music. My true education, however, has been fueled by self-motivated research of how instruments and the voice interact with the world of musical sound.

Breath support, meditation, rhythm training, harmony, ear training, sight reading, trombone, baritone horn, music theory, acoustics

I look forward to learning where your music interests are, and finding common goals to build the foundation of a musical lifestyle. Flexible schedule, and I will be focused on addressing your needs whatever musical puzzles we work on together.

Composition (Music)

Composition (Music)

I have been composing and arranging for ensembles since my early teenage years. My strong background in music theory is balanced with the practical expression of compositional concepts in multiple ensembles. I have performed and recorded original music my entire adult life, and this continues currently.
Ear Training

Ear Training

I began ear training with my middle school band program, and before that with childhood piano lessons. I later developed music cognition with formal ear training courses through 3 years of conservatory, and my B.A. program was rooted in group improvisation. Independant transcription has helped inform my professional performance career, and I continue to learn music by ear to apply across instruments or just for compositional awareness. In recent years, I have learned to teach students intonation, transcription and live ear training
General Music

General Music

Began learning music as a child, and it has continued as a lifelong interest and passion. The breadth of my experience with various musical styles has made me well rounded. I have studied various world music traditions such as American songbook, early American music, African American music, Afrobeat, ancient music cultures such as Greek and Babylonian, medieval quadrivium, and scholarship from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Music Theory

Music Theory

Certifed by Wyzant in Music Theory, Composition, General Music, Ear Training and Trombone. Lifelong passion for formal and independent research in these topics. 20-plus years experience as a professional composer / performer applying theory to practice.
Trombone

Trombone

Began trombone studies playing with local both middle and high school bands in 7th grade. Professional gigs on the instrument beginning in my teen years, and consistently more until 2020. Studied acoustic science of musical instruments generally, and trombone specifically for B.A. thesis projects.
