Teaching and tutoring are what I have dedicated myself too for the past nine years. I am keen on providing children with important social, emotional and academic skills during their early years. I also understand the need to incorporate elements that engages children’s multiple intelligences and supports growth across different developmental areas. I understand the field of education is in a constant state of change and growth, which requires schools and educators to grow along with it. This requires both critical thinking and communication skills, and an ability to refine one’s practice.
My academic preparation and work experience support my qualification for tutoring. I graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, where I received my Elementary Education/ Special Education Teaching Certificate. During my time at HWS, I worked at two distinct schools. While student teaching in first grade, I worked in a general education setting learning to teach to the common core requirements as well as how best support these students at a critical period of social and emotional development. While teaching in fifth grade, I learned about the various types of learners and how to differentiate learning in a classroom.
I have been working 1:1 with students in grades 1, 4, 5, 8 to achieve success in reading and writing. When students are confused, I am able to modify lessons almost immediately so the student is not frustrated but confident and has success.
I am pretty flexible! I am available after school and on most weekends. I love it when students send me what they are working on in advance so I can make sure I come prepared to teach the lesson and have ready examples.
