I am a New York State Certified Elementary Teacher with over twenty years of enrichment and remediation tutoring experience. I spent ten years teaching at a private school in Greenwich, Connecticut with students ranging in age from 3-10 years old.
My strengths include creating a positive learning environment and an individualized education plan unique to each child's learning style. I enjoy working with students and helping them with their academics along with building confidence through positive feedback.
Having a background in Montessori Elementary Education in addition to my Masters in Education enables me to create a program that involves various learning methods and strategies. I provide all necessary materials and will design and create curricular items as needed. I have recently received a certificate for specialized training in the Handwriting Without Tears Program for grades K-5.
As a part time substitute teacher in the Rivertowns, I am exposed to all elementary subjects and grades of the New York State Common Core curriculum. I also work part time teaching pre-k .
In my spare time, I enjoy teaching art history workshops to both children and adults at local libraries.

Helen is thorough and knows how to engage her student for an hour, which is challenging when the student is 8 years old and it's near bed time! My son is getting a lot out of it.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
